YOU can do this!
Have you wanted to go somewhere and no one you know wants to go? I’ve been there and finally decided that life was too short. I am going to these places and not looking back. Solo travel is incredibly empowering. Why not give it a try??
5 Benefits of Solo Travel
The popular 80’s band, the Go-Go’s, said it best! “Vacation, all I ever wanted! Vacation, had to get away! Vacation, meant to be spent alone!” Traveling with others is a fun and enriching experience, but traveling solo? Well, traveling solo is an altogether different vibe. You get to do everything on your own terms – and live and vacation the way that you want to.
Solo travel can be daunting; we understand the anxiety that arises when considering a solo adventure. However, it has significant benefits that surpass your wildest dreams. As a travel advisor who’s well-versed in solo travel, I love talking about the ways a solo adventure can enrich your life. Let’s dive in and talk about it.
Here are five benefits of solo travel that will make you want to take the lonesome leap, even just once.
1. Solo Travel Furthers Your Independence - One of the benefits of solo travel is that it broadens your independence and tests your capabilities.
When you travel alone, not only does it challenge you, but it proves your strengths and your weaknesses. What are you capable of doing? Where do you excel? Where do you struggle? When you travel alone, you get all the answers that will help you succeed in other areas in your life – whether that be work, family, romance, etc. Coming back from a solo trip, you will feel independent and capable. You will feel like you can do anything you want.
Time and again, we have seen solo travelers not only take in tourist attractions - but have also watched them increase their self-awareness and confidence. It’s also important to know that when working with a travel agent, you are never truly alone. We are going to guide you through the process step-by-step and create an adventure for you that we can assure you is safe.
2. Solo travel lets you do what you want when you want.
Have your solo adventure curated exactly as you envision. So much of life is working with others and learning to compromise. When you travel solo - there is no compromise! We, your travel planners, will create every day of your trip as you see fit.
Growing up, we were so used to traveling with our families and giving in to our siblings and parents’ wants. You learn to put aside your needs for others - which can be a great thing. However, when you take a solo trip - we encourage you to put yourself first. Do everything you want to do! If you want to see the Sphinx in Giza, then go! It’s time to put YOU first.
3. Solo travel is the encouragement needed to push yourself out of your comfort zone.
Doing something that scares you puts you out of your comfort zone and there is nothing more rewarding than stretching your self-imposed limits. When you exit your comfort zone and face your fears, you prove to yourself (and others!) that you have the inner strength to overcome your greatest challenges.
Comfort can be a dangerous thing, and it is important to create more experiences for yourself. You should do at least one thing that scares you per year. If you are afraid to go sky diving, go sky diving on a trip to Fox Glacier, New Zealand. If you are afraid of the ocean, go for a swim on the shores of Mallorca. Let solo travel be the one thing this year that scares you. Your plane ticket away from your comfort zone awaits!
4. Solo travel helps you ditch the itinerary and can be incredibly empowering
When traveling with others, you must think of others before making any brash decisions - but when you are traveling alone, you can scrap an idea and replace it with something else without giving too much thought. If you want to ditch your itinerary entirely and be impulsive, no one will stand in your way. If you wake up one morning and realize you are tired and want to relax at a spa, you do not have to notify anyone or make anyone feel bad or rejected for your lack of attendance. If you want to cancel those dinner reservations because you are craving a different cuisine, you do not have to check with the rest of the group. It is all up to you! When traveling solo, you can change your plans completely guilt-free.
5. Solo travel’s greatest benefit is, perhaps, that it fosters plenty of “me time.”
Everyday life is hectic. You work and tend to worry about coworkers, family, friends, car insurance... the list can go on for miles! Even when you are alone in your day-to-day life, your stress and worries can feel overwhelming. When you plan a solo trip, you truly can be alone and catch up on much-needed “me time.” While traveling around the country of your choice, you can permit yourself to get lost and explore. When we plan your trip, we always make sure that there is plenty of space and time for you to be alone so you can find your zen and inner peace. This alone time allows you to clear your head and have the space you truly need. When you get back to your everyday life, you can have the energy to tackle your life in a whole new way.
It’s time to embrace and flex your independence and freedom. Expand your horizons and truly escape your cozy comfort zone. Take some time for yourself to enjoy what makes you happy, fully.
Solo travel can bring a new sense of freedom, along with so many other great benefits.
A solo trip can increase your independence, push you out of your well-beloved comfort zone, make you the head of your own itinerary, and give you some much-needed “me time.”
